Postcards
Up to two minutes (uninterrupted) per person where they can answer two questions:
- What I did last week (since the last meeting),
- What I plan to do in the next week.
No questions until we get through everyone :)
Tigran: busy working thread-less mover / pool. Start to split patch into smaller parts to get through review process.
Christian: building dCache for EMI; EMI/EMT meetings. EMI-0 late. Admin interface now works with ssh2, but needs tidying up.
Antje: Tickets and documentation.
Paul: RSS feeds, EMI+SRM
Owen: dcap and holidays in Florence; kvm issues, fixed in squeeze.
Karsten: Argus plugin .. building small demonstrator using Argus.
Tanja: Tickets, bothing people, NFS stuff.
Thomas: working on GSI authentication in xrootd; reusing Martin Radika's work ... good progress.
Gerd: Spend 1 day working on the identity mappinig .. the only thing missing is the connection to the database; did some tickets; upgrade NDGF 1.9.10-2 (discovered a number of bugs that are now fixed). Fixing the ListHandler? in all the doors, except xrootd door (which does things slightly differently).
Dmitry: SRM scalability .. able to get scalable SRM: 4 SRM in DNS-round-robbin. We can now run at > 150 Hz. Terracotta work helped indirectly. Trying to see if there's any synchronisation issues. Tried with 900 simultaious srmPrepareToPut, checks the status, then does srmPutDone. Also, working on tickets.
Plans for patch-releases
Should we make a new patch release?
1.9.10-2 will be released tomorrow. We plan to mark it "green".
1st Dec., one of the DESY instances will be updated to something more recent, probably 1.9.10.
Patch that creates toplink for creating SQL files.
The transaction.log file in /opt/d-cache directory. Gerd will remove the appenders that they don't need. This will take care of the transaction.log.
If toplink file creation fails (lack of permission), does dCache fail? Yes.
How do you switch on logging?
You cd into the cell and type "log set debug".
Dmitry: would like to investigate what it will take to switch to DataNucleus?.
Plan is to generate in /tmp and remove the existing .jbdc files from /opt/d-cache/etc in code-base.
Trunk activity
Progress with new features...
Are we dropping terracotta?
Scalable SRM
Jon wants unified access for worker-node, so switching to using SRM.
100 Hz .. we can sustain this already with srmPing.
Compare performance of terracotta with direct DB access and DB is much better.
He wants to use SRM for local access to data. December is deadline for this work.
We're planning to running customised
"thin" here means no in-memory requests that haven't been stored in the database.
Dmitry has plans for substantial changes for the future: relation-to-object mapping
"SELECT FOR UPDATE" locks the record.
Issues from yesterday's Tier-1 meeting
Issues from EMI
EMT
Building problems with dCache server, and client. Dependency handling has changed.
No metrics with our ticket performance. We may need an additional state in our ticket, something like "final" to indicate that the fix has been deployed.
We can add this state to our dCache RT.
EMT tickets will be coming in soon.
JRA1.3
RT Tickets and documentation
Tigran felt that creating a ticket in a separate channel is better than flagging a ticket an existing support ticket as needing.
Outstanding RT Tickets
[This is an auto-generated item. Don't add items here directly]
RT 5768: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException?: Name Mismatch in 1.9.9-1 pool
Dmitry to talk to Paul off-line.
RT 5856: fqan substitute in LinkGroupAuthorization?.conf
Dmitry has an idea how to solve this, but he wants to check that it works before replying.
Review of RB requests
DTNM
Proposed: same time, next week.
