[part of a series of meetings]

Participants

Patrick, Christian, Jan, Paul, Antje, Karsten, Tanja; Dmitry

Agenda

[see box on the right-hand side]

Postcards

Up to two minutes (uninterrupted) per person where they can answer two questions:

  • What I did last week (since the last meeting),
  • What I plan to do in the next week.

No questions until we get through everyone :)

Christian: ssh2-patch now in RB (for Gerd), working on the EMI bug-listing reports (which now need to be reported daily), talking to Markus about automating some Xen stuff (creating machines via command-line)

Patrick: finished EMI deliverable (once a year, writing a ~60 page report of activity), been to Paris, to the Ecole Polytechnique (sp?) This was the "Aristotle Seminar" themed "Big Data".

Dmitry: studying SRM request storage part, with the goal of consolidating on DataNucleus?. There will be an interview on Friday on dCache developer (1.9.5-26). 1.9.5-16 has a problem with migration if pin-manager has problem. 1.9.5-26 fixes this and allows migration to continue when pin-manager has a failure. The cause of the pin-manager failure is currently unknown.

Tanja: tickets, patch for WebDAV for Gerd (kick Gerd to review it!) to use stylesheets and template library.

Karsten: mostly gPlazma documentation for 1.9.12.

Antje: Relaxing and Documentation

Paul: Working dcap related problems LCB. Bug fixing and tickets. Reviewing.

Jan: Active transfers page (not in RB) with possibility to select and kill a mover. Meeting with Dima to get some feedback on the 1.9.10.

Plans for patch-releases

Should we make a new patch release?

Paul has a patch for 1.9.12

Webadmin

Should everything about the new web-admin be backported to 1.9.12?

Are you moving to talking directly with the cells rather than XML? Yes.

Can advertise this feature as slow currently but we're working on fixing this.

The new webadmin should be disabled by default in 1.9.12; that way, the risk of breaking a site is less.

dcap

dcap release is needed soon.

Paul has a few patches that fix the LCB. In particular dccp command so it works efficiently if someone enabled LCB.

Christian has a man-page for dccp. Unsure how to put this into review-board. Suggest adding it as dCache trunk; add man pages uncompressed and compress them in the build process.

1.9.13

We should branch now(-ish) to make the release. Everyone happy with this.

1.9.14

We may choose to delay this release .. and the release cycles to every four months (say). Patrick is worried that our feature releases are racing ahead of our golden releases.

But maybe, with 1.9.12 being more "polish", we will have more time to spend on trunk, so a 3-month release cycle might be reasonable.

To be discussed further.

Trunk activity

Progress with new features...

Paul has a very small patch for SRM FileRequestContainer?.

Jan found that the Vehicle uses long to store JobID .. elsewhere it is an int. What should I do? Slowly refactor to change usage int --> long. Post patch on RB.

Issues from yesterday's Tier-1 meeting

See notes; nothing spectacular.

Issues from EMI

Procedure is that we must submit proposed changes for 1.9.12 to EMI via Savannah. This process is not clearly understood at the moment.

Once changes are accepted,

Nagios probes

No real definition of what we are supposed to do here. There is a page in EMI.

Note that Dmitry sent an email describing what things CMS monitors.

We could start by looking at taking ownership of the generic SRM Nagios probe.

Patrick has information; he'll send this to team mailing list.

Outstanding RT Tickets

[This is an auto-generated item. Don't add items here directly]

 RT 6343: p2p copy/move

Tanja had a meeting with Dima about this. Tigran sees a problem with it and would like to discuss this with Gerd to see if he has a solution, but unfortunately he isn't here.

Postpone until next meeting.

RT 6351: how to even out restores across multiple pools

Dmitry will close this ticket!

RT 6354: dcache support in glite

When was our last gLite release?

Christian has done a gLite release in the past, but he's not sure of the certification process.

The problem seems to be in the gLite release process.

Christian to ask: would he be able to upgrade from gLite release to a dCache.org release? Would having a gLite release be beneficial?

General policy is not to support gLite unless sites depend on them; rather, sites should switch to dCache.org releases (1.9.5).

Where do we point sites to satisfy their requirements; for example, BDII? Sites should use gLite resources (e.g., latest gLite release).

Review of RB requests

Skipped.

DTNM

Same time, next week.
