Postcards

Up to two minutes (uninterrupted) per person where they can answer two questions:

  • What I did last week (since the last meeting),
  • What I plan to do in the next week.

No questions until we get through everyone :)

Gerd: got married :-), finished Tanja's pool-to-pool-over-HTTP work (now committed).

Al: successfully installed dCache; looking at modules (statistics).. managed to transfer some files. Some problems: trunk-build was a problem with spring injection; db for Chimera pg-sql problem "path2inode can't find type tinodes" (or something similar).

Dmitry: working on the scheduling and job part of SRM's database back-end. Helping Al with understanding Integrating SRM performance metrics into HTTP (using some existing of project from ) .. extraction of data from db .. probably using data-nucleus. + tickets.

Jan: fixed a lot of high-priority finbdbugs, adding pool-selection in new web-admin, + ...

Karsten: mostly .. Christian; networking IP matcher, ...

Paul:

Antje: Tickets, documentation

Tigran: implementating pseudo-filesystem for NFS; this is for NFSv4.1 to control exports; other misc. fixes.

Patrick: visiting ACAT: a conference on computing and physics. People were interested in NFS/v4.1 talk. Trying to organising the Lyon meeting. EMI PTB meeting (about all the new wonderful things we need to do in EMI)

Plans for patch-releases

Should we make a new patch release?

We have been 1.9.5 on test system since last Thursday .. looks OK. Will release when release-notes are written.

Nothing urgent on other branches.

Trunk activity

Progress with new features...

Al's second problem is probably due to old version of postgres: v8.1

Al's first problem was with PNFS-based dCache not starting.

AP/ Al to send Gerd a copy of the error message.

AP/ Paul to request a virtual-machine for PNFS testing.

Big sites still using PNFS:

  • FNL are not planning on migrating to Chimera.
  • BNL are planning to migrate but haven't done so due to their Tornado problem.
  • PIC are still using PNFS due to their use of enstore.

Some things we need to test before

New features in 1.9.14 that we should test carefully:

  • New pool-selection (WAAS)
  • p2p using HTTP
  • replica-manager with the new p2p
  • pool-IO (if Tigran's patches go in)

Next Monday we branch: 1.9.14.

New numbering scheme:

  Major release 2.0.0-1
    Patch-level release 2.0.1-1
    Patch-level release 2.0.2-1
    Patch-level release 2.0.3-1
      packing-only fix 2.0.3-2
      packing-only fix 2.0.3-3

  Major release 2.1.0-1
    Patch-level release 2.1.1-1
      packing-only fix 2.1.1-2
    Patch-level release 2.1.2-1
    Patch-level release 2.1.3-1

  Major release 2.2.0-1
    Patch-level release 2.2.1-1
    Patch-level release 2.2.2-1
    Patch-level release 2.2.3-1

Branch would be 2.0, releases tagged 2.0.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2, etc.

Drop /opt/d-cache? We need to check this.

Desirable to have Debian builds and FHS compliant RPMs on our web-page. We needs to have a different name for the RPM packages so they don't conflict.

Very much desired but we need to check who is using

Decision postponed until we have more information.

AP/ Patrick to look into how difficult it is to change package name in EMI.

Xrootd

Gerd: been in contact with Alice people. Problems with TAPE upload to NDGF. The envelope format (auth. scheme) they have a condition in their (Alice) code to work-around incompatibility

Planning to release a completely new envelop format very soon.

Plan to refactor this part of the xrootd door: you can service-loader system (in Java 6) to make it pluggable.

We stopped discussing resolving LFN-->PFN mapping; this would benefit from this work. One could write a plugin to do this mapping.

Gerd: suggest you don't add these to dCache: add them as a separate package that people can install. proper plugins.

Patrick: we can change the dCache license at any time .. and this must happen before March 2012.

Issues from yesterday's Tier-1 meeting

Issues from EMI

Christian and Karsten are working on the Nagios probes. We are responsible for SRM and dCache probes. Karsten is working on this currently.

Need to organise

EMI all-hands meeting Padua

Lyon (EGI/OGF meeting) Monday morning

Oct. 13th EMI patch release introducing latest 1.9.12.

Gerd turning up at the Lyon Federation workshop (some point in November)? Yup, should be OK.

Gerd is going to present WASS at CHEP.

AP/ Paul to read through the document and suggest things.

Try to preserve the MathML in the document: Gerd to produce pictures of the formulae.

Outstanding RT Tickets

[This is an auto-generated item. Don't add items here directly]

RT 6463: feature request: statistics for pinned data in pools

AP/ remove discuss flag.

RT 6493: Data lost when migration from pnfs to chimera

AP/ Paul: add warning to migration process describing danger of data-loss and how to minimise the risk.

Put it in 1.9.12; enable by default; include an option that switches it off.

Further discussion needed, next week.

Review of RB requests

DTNM

Same time, next week.
