Site reports

Things have been running fine for the past couple of week.

ssh SOCKS proxy

Follow up to last week on the problem reported with connecting to the ssh admin interface through SOCKS proxy. This problem seems to be limited to pcells; the admin interface may be accessed using the normal ssh client with a SOCKS proxy.

The problem is described in ticket 9484:

DB reconnection after network outage

The problem was described in ticket RT 9442:

Xavier has closed this ticket as it refers to an older version of dCache and it isn't clear the problem still applies.

pin manager CannotSerializeTransactionException?

There was a report that pin manager would fail under heavy load. Ticket 9370

Xavier has closed ticket 9370 as it was reported against an older version of dCache and it isn't clear it still applies.

Paul looked at the cause and believed the underlying problem isn't resolved, but Xavier said he can open a fresh ticket if to problem comes back.

Scripting SSH client

No update; Paul to ask Dmitry for an update in developers meeting.

Everything is more or less fine.

Running out of memory

Elena reported that a pool ran out of memory. She will open a ticket, sending the hprof file (or a link from where this may be downloaded).

Checksum calculation

PIC suffering from failed transfers due to timeout after transfer completed.

Consensus was to update pool configuration from on-write to on-transfer.

Think it is going well.

dCache logging

Jens reported that they have started rolling out a change where logback writes data directly to log files, rather than outputing to stdout and having journald handle logging. This is to support log rotation, which is otherwise awkward to do under journald.

This works OK. They are rolling out the update to remaining nodes on Wednesday.

NDGF are planning to upgrade their dCache instance to dCache v4.2 tomorrow (Wednesday).

It was working fine on their test instance, and there doesn't appear to be any big schema changes.

Support tickets for discussion

[Items are added here automagically]

Next week, there is a clash between dCache Tier-1 support meeting and the eXtreme DataCloud? (XDC) All-Hands meeting, which DESY is hosting.

Therefore, the next meeting is in a fortnight's time: on Tuesday 2018-09-18 at the usual time (14:30 CEST).
